Nestled on a private street with a golf course flanking the rear yard, this sprawling split level lay vacant for years. With one of our more interesting project scopes, the clients were multi-generational and excited to upgrade the home and reinvent the idea of multiple generations living under one roof.
With the older generation spending most of their time in warmer climates, it seemed foolish to keep a large house in Illinois. The middle generation was ready for a project that would serve them well into the future. Enter a sprawling split-level with the ability to accommodate three generations living under one roof. With multiple entertaining areas to spread out, while at the same time keeping separate levels for privacy, this home packed a lot under one roof.

The entry level includes all the main living functions along with an attached 4-car garage, separated in two parts by a mud room and laundry. A half level down from the main foyer houses the in-law suite with bedroom suite, living room, study and laundry. A half level up includes three additional bedrooms and two bathrooms for the youngest, third generation. Traveling another half level up puts you in the primary suite including another half-level up reading nook.

A new back stair adjacent to the kitchen puts you in the “Texas Basement” full of casual entertaining areas. Featuring no proper below-grade basement, the house provided us instead with an opportunity for spectacular ground level living space with uniterrupted golf course views.
